In discussions for franchise renewals for Yellow Cab, Austin Cab and Lone Star Cab, City officials, cab drivers and the franchisees are exploring ways to improve how taxi policies are set that best meet the needs of everyone, including customers. How can we improve the taxi experience in Austin?

  1. Standardize pedicab compensation

    Create a standard form of compensation so that consumers know the cost of riding in a pedicab. Compensation, whether by fare or a tip of $5 per person per trip, could be set by distance or other criteria.

    • Put a cap on pedicab permits

      Currently, the City authorizes pedicab permits but does not limit or "cap" the number given, unlike taxi permits, which are capped. A cap could ensure that pedicab drivers have a viable means of earning a living.
